Although Canada is a derivative of the UK & France, Canada made it illegal or simply unnecessary to have blue on its national flag. Even when the American colonies decided to form their own independent republic & received a big statue gift from France, the USA still retained the red, white & blue colors of the UK & France. Australia & NZ have made a big bold iconic statement by featuring plenty of blue in their flags. For some reason Canada ended up with the simple red & white, like the national flag of Switzerland & Japan. Those flags seemed to have worked well for them, but without blue on the Canadian flag, it will never be as nice as the flags of the UK, France, Australia, NZ & the US.
